Eagles, Patriots and Bulldogs pick up wins

The Goshen Eagles knocked off Straughn 53-50 in the Florala Christmas Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Florala.

The win for the Eagles brings them to 3-5 on the season. They will continue tournament play on Friday evening.

Randarius Maddoux scored 13 points in the opening half. Despite his strong start to the game, the Eagles went into halftime trailing by four points at 31-27.

The Eagles held Straughn to one point in the third quarter and went into the fourth quarter leading 38-32.

Makel Avery scored six fourth quarter points and the Eagles held on to defeat the Tigers by three points.

Maddoux led the Eagles with 17 points, while DeShawne Brown added 15 points and Avery had 11. Jeffrey Warrick had four points and Tre Dix had two.

The Eagles will tip things off on day two of the tournament at 8:00 p.m. against an opponent still to be determined.

Pike County 61 Central Phenix City 52

The Bulldogs picked up a win in the Southeast Health Tournament on Thursday night. The Bulldogs improve to 6-3 with the win.

Andres Burney led the Bulldogs with 22 points. He added 14 rebounds to continue his double-double streak. He has recorded a double-double in every game this season.

Omar Cumberbatch scored 12 points and had six rebounds and three assists. Amaghie Lampley had 10 points and four assists.

Lady Patriots 43 Morgan Academy 28

The Lady Patriots picked up a 15-point win over Autauga in Troy on Thursday night. Ansley Adams and Shelby Renfroe recorded a team-high 12 points. Adams recorded eight rebounds. Tiffany Jonson had nine points with seven rebounds.

The Patriots will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Selma to take on Morgan Academy.
