Lady Patriots start tournament in Abbeville

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots began play in a tournament in Abbeville on Friday afternoon. The Lady Patriots won their opening round game against Calvary Christian 47-15.

The win for the Patriots sent them to a round two game against Chambers on Friday evening.

The Patriots used an 18-point second quarter to pull away form Calvary Christian.

Tiffany Johnson led the Patriots with 14 points and had six rebounds. Lakin Harrell added 13 points, while Morgan Bundy and Kaylee Copeland each had five.

The Patriots are scheduled to take on Chambers later this evening.

Before taking part in the Abbeville tournament, the Pike Liberal Arts basketball teams swept rival Crenshaw Christian on Thursday afternoon in Luverne.

Both junior varsity teams won their games against the Cougars on Thursday. The varsity girls followed suit by knocking off the Cougars 42-29. The varsity boys finished off the evening with a dominating 72-28 win over Crenshaw Christian.

The win for the Patriots brings them to within one game of the .500 mark at 5-6.

Shelby Renfroe led the Lady Patriots with 18 points. She added two assists and two steals. Tiffany Johnson finished with seven points with four rebounds six blocked shots, two steals and one assists.

Lakin Harrell had seven points and two rebounds. Ansley Adams added six points with three rebounds and had one steal and one assists. Morgan Bundy finished with one point, eight rebounds and three assists. Caroline Senn had two points and five rebounds. Atley Eiland had one point.

The Patriots moved to 2-5 with their win.

Javon Christian finished with a team-high 17 points, while Drew Nelson added 16 and Nick O’Brien chipped in with 14. Kase Chirico had 11 points, Jeffery Knotts had five, Jaquavian Johnson and Bubba Dean each had two points. Avery Ernsberger finished with one point.
