Ariton finishes regular season with a win

The Ariton Purple Cats finished the 2019 regular season on a high note with a 36-10 win over Cottonwood on Friday night in Ariton.

The win for the Purple Cats improves their overall record on the season to 8-2 and their region record to 7-0. After dropping their first two games of the season, the Purple Cats finished the regular season on an eight game winning streak.

The Purple Cats claimed a region championship after last week’s win. They will host a first round playoff game in two weeks.

On Friday night, the Purple Cats scored all of their points in the first half. They went into the second quarter leading 14-3. They ended the half with 22 more points in the second quarter and went into the break holding a 36-3 lead.

The Purple Cats finished the game with 415 yards. 215 of them came through the air.

Maddux Herring completed seven of his 10 passes for 185 yards and had one touchdown. Ian Seen finished with one completion in two attempts for 30 yards.

Hayes Floyd hauled in four catches for 113 yards and had a touchdown, while Cade Webb had 35 yards and Isaiah Johnson had 30.

Floyd also led the Trojans in rushing yards with 94 on just two carries. He added a touchdown and a two-point conversion. Brian Smith had 56 yards and Landon Thrash added 44. Both Smith and Thrash had touchdowns. Isai Lopez also had a rushing touchdown.
