Purple Cats host Cottonwood

The Class 2A Region 2 champion Ariton Purple Cats return home one final time for the regular season finale against Cottonwood on Friday night.

The Purple Cats officially clinched the region championship last week with a 29-21 win on the road against G.W. Long. They sit 7-2 overall and are a perfect 6-0 in region play with one more game left to be played.

Following a two-game losing streak to start the season, the Purple Cats are riding a seven-game winning streak. The Purple Cats are averaging 38 points per game despite scoring a season-low seven points in their week two loss to Goshen. The defense has allowed 24 points per game.

The Bears snapped a four-game losing streak last week when they defeated Houston Academy at home 40-14.

The Bears scored a season-high 65 points in their shutout win over Barbour County. They are averaging 22 points per game, while allowing 33.

Ariton knocked off Cottonwood 47-28 last season on the road. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Robert F. Zumstien Stadium.
