Trojans advance to regional tournament

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans advanced to the regional tournament on Monday night after claiming second place in the Class 5A Area 3 Tournament at Rehobeth.

The Trojans racked up the second place finish after they fell to host Rehobeth in the finals 8-25, 22-25, 25-20, 22-25.

The Trojans knocked off Carroll in the opening round of the tournament 25-18, 27-29, 27-25, 25-19.

Anyla Shipman finished the opening match with 18 kills, one ace, and one solo block. Madison Stewart had eight kills, one ace, and three blocks. Mikalah Griffin had eight kills. Stella Gilbreath finished the match with four kills and four aces, while Naja Canty had 33 assists.

Against Rehobeth in the finals, Shiman had 18 kills, one ace and four solo blocks. Candy had four kills, four aces, and one solo block. Stewart finished with nine kills, two aces and one one block. Griffin had seven kills and one block.

“I’m really proud of our team,” Trojans head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick said. “We had some players that were put into different roles and, and they performed extremely well. We also had some players really step up their games, and I couldn’t be happier for how they’ve developed.”

The Trojans advance to the South Regional Tournament on Thursday at the Multiplex at Crampton Bowl . They will take on the Area 6 winner beginning at 9 a.m.
