Purple Cats sit alone in first place after win over G.W. Long

The Ariton Purple Cats became the lone team to remain undefeated in Class 2A Region 2 when they knocked off G.W. Long 29-21 on Friday night in Skipperville.

The Purple Cats move to first place in the region with just one region game remaining next week. The Purple Cats will take on 2-6 Cottonwood and the Rebels will host Abbeville.

The Purple Cats opened their scoring when Brian Smith took the opening play of the game 80 yards for a touchdown. The Purple Cats ended the first quarter tied with Rebels at 14. The Purple Cats added eight more points in the second quarter and seven in the fourth. They allowed just six points following the first quarter.

Smith finished the game with 206 yards rushing on 18 carries. Maddux Herring had 82 yards rushing and one touchdown. Blake Carroll had two touchdowns and 54 yards rushing.

Cade Webb finished with two catches for 36 yards.
