Former Troy quarterback Brandon Silvers was drafted by the XFL’s Seattle Dragons in the inaugural league draft on Tuesday morning.

Silvers, who was the quarterback for the Memphis Express in the first and only season of the Alliance of American Football, will get his second stint in another new league that is scheduled to begin in 2020.

The Trojan quarterback was not drafted in the NFL draft following his senior season at Troy. He did get an invite to participate in the New Orleans Saints’ Rookie Camp.

Silvers was not signed by the Saints and was later drafted by the Express of the AAF in the third round.

Silvers began the season third on the depth chart for the Express behind Zach Mettenberger and Christian Hackenberg, but by season’s end, he moved his way up to starter.

Silvers finished the season third in the league in completion percentage at 64 percent, behind only Josh Woodrum of Salt Lake and the league leader Aaron Murray of Atlanta. Silvers finished with 799 passing yards and four touchdown passes with two interceptions. He finished third in the league with an 86.1 passing rating.

After the AAF folded, Silvers was signed by the New York Jets in April, but was then released in May.

Silvers led the Trojans to two-straight 10 win seasons and a 2-0 record in bowl games with wins in the Dollar General Bowl and New Orleans Bowl.

Silvers’ completion percentage was on par with Silvers’ career 64 percent completion percentage in his four years at Troy. Silvers finished with 71 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.

Silvers will join the Dragons, who are coached by Jim Zorn.

The opening week of the inaugural XFL season will begin on Saturday, February 8, with two games. Two more games will be played on Sunday.

The regular season will be 10 weeks and it will be followed by the league semifinals on April 18 and 19. The XFL championship will be on April 26.

Games can be seen on ESPN, Fox, FS1 and ABC.
