The Pike County Bulldogs host Geneva on Friday night inside Bulldogs Stadium.
The Bulldogs enter the game riding a 12-game winning streak in region play, and they hope to make 13 in a row with a win on Friday. Overall, the Bulldogs sit at 2-0 on the season.
Their second win came last week when they defeated Houston Academy 50-0.
“We had a good week of practice and it showed,” Bulldogs head coach Fred Holland said. “I was extremely proud of the guys for playing so well. We did a lot better than we did against ACA. We are steadily trying to improve.”
The Bulldogs offense had five different players score a touchdown in last Friday night’s win.
“In the backfield, we have about three runners that can really step up,” Holland said. “If one gets winded we can put someone else in. We rotate a couple quarterbacks and receivers. Even though we have a small team we still rotate guys. Guys understand they have to play both ways. The guys are improving and they understand they have to make plays and we are proud of them for doing that.”
Geneva will offer up a different type of challenge. Running behind a big offensive line, Holland believes his team will have to be able to stop the run.
“They are big up front,” Holland said. “They have a really good back and they have a good quarterback. He doesn’t always throw the ball, but he has outstanding wheels. They simplify things, they don’t do a whole lot. They really want to run the ball, I think that’s their strong point; kind of like us.”
The Panthers are 1-1 on the season. They fell to Providence Christian 41-16 last Friday night.
The two teams met last season. It was one of the tighter region games for the Bulldogs. They defeated the Panthers 27-22.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
