The Goshen Eagles, teamed up with Kinston High School, knocked off Wicksburg 17-16 in a jamboree on Friday night in Newton.

Coach Bart Snyder and the Eagles traded offensive and defensive series with Kinston and were able to get the one-point win heading into next week’s opener against Ariton.

“We got a lot of people in with different rotations,” Snyder said. “That’s what our overall objective was and we think that really paid off for us. We had some offensive series that looked really good. We had some young guys at the end of the game. Overall we are pleased with the overall effort.”

The Eagles teamed up with Kinston out of 1A to battle 3A Wicksburg. The two teams traded off playing offense and defense throughout the night.

The Eagles will officially open up the season next week on the road against Ariton.

“I hoped we got all the jitters out in the game,” Snyder said. “I think that is some of the things that hurt us last year. We going to work on us and make sure we eliminate some things.”
