Post 70 continues fighting in Regionals

American Legion Post 70 continued to stay alive in the American Legion regional tournament on Friday afternoon when they knocked off Tallahassee Post 13 12-2 in Tampa, Florida.

Post 70 stormed out to a 4-0 lead in the first three innings and cruised to the 10-run win to keep their hopes alive of winning their first regional championship.

Carson Fain got the start for Post 70. He pitched all five innings in the shortened game. He allowed two unearned runs, two hits and struck out four batters.

Post 70 scored their first run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Cole Smith. Post 70 then had an RBI single and an RBI double later that inning to jump out to the early 3-0 advantage.

After scoring a single run in the third to take a 4-0 lead, Post 70 added two more runs in the fourth. Reed Jinright singled in Smith and Wood Jinright scored on a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 6-2.

Post 70 ended the game one inning later when they posted six final runs in the fifth inning. The first two runs came across to score on bases loaded walks by Grayson Stewart and Smith. Stewart later came around to score on a fielder’s choice. Post 70 had back-to-back RBI singles by Reed Jinright and JC Ceman bringing the score to 11-2. Reed Jinright scored the final run of the game on an error off the bat of Joey Wozniak.

Post 70 had two-hit performances by Reed Jinright, Ceman, Wood Jinright and Will Aaron. Coleman Wright, Bryce Peavy and Smith all had one hit.

Post 70 will continue play in the Tampa on Saturday beginning at approximately 10 a.m.
