Veterans Memorial Stadium gets new turf

As Chip Lindsey was introduced as Troy’s new coach last month, the news about Troy’s new turf had already been released.
One month later, Veterans memorial Stadium’s new turf is in the final stages of being installed.
Workers have been busy over the last month putting down the new Matrix Helix Realfill for the 2019 season.
“This is an important project on numerous levels,” said Director of Athletics Brent Jones last month. “First and foremost, importantly the new turf is a commitment to the safety of our student-athletes and the dynamic design of the turf will enhance our already strong brand recognition with everyone of our home games broadcast live via an ESPN medium. The design also returns some traditional elements which our fans will enjoy while watching games in the Vet.”
The previous turf was installed prior to the 2012 season. The new turf will feature life-like individual blades of grass. It is filled with pea gravel and a cuboidal rubber infill that will give the turf a cushioning.
The turf was manufactured by Hellas Construction, the same company that installed turf for the Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders.
The new turf will feature the Power T logo at midfield and will have alternating shades of green every five yards. There will be a familiar look as new cardinal end zones make a return to Veterans Memorial Stadium. The crossing swords emoji will be placed on each 35-yard line.
“Larry Blakeney Field” will remain on each 25-yard line.
The Trojans will open up the 2019 season at home on August 31 against Campbell.
