Belles pick up first win in World Series

The Troy Belles used a pair of big innings to knock off North Carolina 21-11 in the opening round of the Belles World Series on Saturday in Louisiana.
Troy scored six runs in the first and eight more in the sixth to pull away from North Carolina.
Troy’s pitching staff allowed all 11 runs in the first two innings, but kept North Carolina scoreless the rest of the way.
Sadie Leverette got the start and pitched the game’s first 1.2 innings. Molly Garrett entered the game and pitched the remaining 4.1 innings. She allowed just three hits and struck out two batters.
Stella Gilbreath finished 3-4 at the plate with two RBI, while Leverette went 3-3 with five RBI and a run scored. Heather Maxwell, Dakota Berry, Madison Allen and Garrett all finished with two hits.
Troy advances to the winner’s bracket where they will play the winner of Virginia and Louisiana at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
