Post 70 earns first win in American Legion State Tournament

American Legion Post 70 scored in four-straight innings in their 10-0 win over Tuscaloosa Post 34 on Friday afternoon on day one of the American Legion State Tournament in Birmingham.
The defending state champion Post 70 team used a three-run second and four-run fourth to help end the game after just five innings of play.
Logan Ross pitched five innings and allowed just three hits and struck out six batters.
Post 70 was held scoreless in just one inning and it came in the first inning. In the second, Post 70’s offense got to work and scored three runs on two hits. Both hits came on home runs by Bryce Peavy and Carson Fain.
Joey Wozniak led off the third with a walk and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Fain. Peavy came around to score the second run of the inning on a single by Coleman Wright, giving Post 70 a 5-0 lead.
Post 70’s productive inning came in their four-run fourth. Matt Snell hit a two-run double to centerfield, scoring both Will Aaron and Reed Jinright. Cole Smith and Fain each had RBI singles and Post 70 carried a 9-0 lead into the fifth inning.
Post 70 officially ended the game one inning later when Wozniak doubled on a line drive to center field that allowed Grayson Stewart to score.
Wozniak finished 3-3 with one and RBI and two runs scored. Peavy and Fain each picked up two hits, while Snell, Wright and Smith each had one hit.
Post 70 will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Mobile and Central.
