Troy AAA team eliminated after loss to Dothan

The Troy AAA tournament team had their run in the state tournament come to a close on Monday evening when they fell to Dothan 5-3.

It was the second game of the day for Troy. They scored eight runs over the course of the first two innings and it led to a 13-3 win over Rehobeth in their first game on Monday.

After jumping out to an 8-1 lead, Troy added two more runs in the third and then three in the fourth to run away with the 10-run win.

Cole Garrot got the start for Troy in the win. Garrot pitched the first two innings and allowed one run on two hits. He struck out two batters.

Kellen Stewart and Braden Shirley each got on the mound for Troy in the final two innings. They allowed a combine three runs, but only two runs were earned.

The first three Troy runs came around to score on errors before Clayton Johnson singled in Tucker Vaughn to bring the score to 4-0.

After Rehobeth scored a run in the second, Troy answered with their second consecutive four-run inning. Damien Williams drove in a run with a single and Owen Pugh drove in two more with a double. Pugh scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Troy entered the bottom of the fourth leading 10-3. They ended the game early with three final runs in the fourth.

Troy had four straight hits including RBI singles by Williams and Pugh. Stewart also had an RBI double in the inning.

Troy had a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning, but Dothan scored three unanswered runs to secure the win.

Connor Davidson pitched four innings in game two before giving way to Garrot for the final inning.

Troy finished with three hits by Williams, Stewart and Johnson.

Troy had a two-run RBI single by Williams and Shirley scored on a wild pitch to give Troy a brief 3-2 lead in the third inning.
