Troy Ozone stays alive in tournament

The Troy Ozone team entered Saturday in the loser’s bracket of the Ozone State Tournament in search of two wins to advance to Sunday. After falling behind early, Troy bounced back to defeat Morgan County 18-7 in game one.

Troy fell behind 6-0 but used a 12-run fourth inning to pull away from Morgan County.

Troy had 11 hits in the fourth and had nine straight batters reach, seven of which reached on singles.

Pruitt Vaughn, West Braisted and Rhodes Baker pitched for Troy. After Vaughn pitched the first 1.2 innings, Braisted pitched the next 3.1 innings and allowed one run on three hits.

Braisted finished 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Kade Brookins finished 3-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Troy again found themselves down early in game two of the day against Alexandria. After allowing two runs in the first inning, Troy outscored Alexandria 9-0 the rest of the way and advanced to Sunday with a 9-2 win.

Cole Pugh, Luke Braisted and Jordan McBryde all pitched for Troy in the win. Braisted pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Troy picked up seven hits by seven different players. Rhodes Baker had two RBI and a run scored.

Troy will be back in action today beginning at 1 p.m.
