The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots began volleyball camp this week inside the school gymnasium.

Under first-year head coach Lana Johnson, the Patriots will use the time to gear up for the upcoming season.

Johnson comes to Pike Liberal Arts after she spent the last two seasons as the junior varsity head coach at Charles Henderson High School.

Johnson hopes to use this week as a time for her team to come together before the start of the season.

“The camp is a time for our team to grow and come together,” Johnson said. “For me as a new coach, it’s a time to evaluate the talent that I have and how best to use that talent.”

The camp will run through Friday. On the final day, Johnson and the Lady Patriots will begin a volleyball clinic for girls ages 9-14.

Participants will learn key fundamentals as well as work and play with the current Patriot players.

“The clinic is a chance for our team to raise money, but mostly to give back to the community,” Johnson said. “ It’s a time the Pike volleyball girls can teach and share their talents with others.”

The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. and run through 11.

The cost of the clinic is $20. For more information or to register call coach Johnson at 334-434-9195. Participants do not have to pre-register.
