Troy 8U All-Stars remain undefeated with a pair of wins

The Troy 8U Tournament Team entered Monday as the last undefeated team in the 8U State Tournament in Decatur.

They kept their unblemished record in tact with a 16-1 win over the Municipal Americans in game one and a 4-3 win over AUM on Monday afternoon.

Troy scored three runs in the first before ultimately putting the game out of reach with 13 more in the third inning.

Troy finished with 19 hits in the win, led by Cope Russell who finished 3-3 with three runs scored. Dreyton Wingard, Cole Davis, Bradunn Golden, Dru Jinright and Markel Toles all had two hits.

Wingard and Golden each had three RBI, while Davis, Tyrin Toney and Toles each had two. Connor Sanders Porter Beasley, Ethan Gardiner and JD Vaughn also drove in runs.

After falling behind early, Troy battled back to score four runs in the second inning and coasted to a 4-3 win, sending them to the state championship game on Tuesday morning.

Gardiner doubled in both Golden and Jinright to even the game at two. Ryan Copeland followed up with a single to drive in both Beasley and Gardiner.

Troy finished with nine hits led by Gardiner, who finished 2-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Russell, Sanders, Golden, Jinright, Beasley, Copeland and Toles all had one hit.

Troy will play in the championship today beginning at 9:30 a.m.
