Shutout: Troy 6U Tournament team knocks off Eclectic 16-0 in opening round

The 6U South State Tournament got under way at the Troy Sportsplex on Friday afternoon.

Troy kicked off their tournament with a round one win over Eclectic 16-0.

Troy scored the maximum seven runs in the opening inning of play. In all, Troy sent 12 batters to the plate.

Troy had back-to-back inside the park home runs in the frame that gave them a 2-0 lead. Noah Houlton smacked his home run to right field, while Elliott Cochran homered to center field.

Parker Precise, Cole Cleveland, Zane Brookins and Judson Ross all drove in runs in the inning and Troy took a 7-0 lead into the second inning.

Nine batters went to the plate in the second inning. Nine batters reached, including Precise, who touched all four bases for another Troy home run. Copeland, Houton, Cochran, Ethan Ernsberger, Henry Gutierrez and Wallace all scored in the inning and Try took a 14-0 lead into the third inning.

Troy’s defense helped the cause in the top of the third inning. They held Eclectic scoreless leading into the bottom of the inning.

Barrett Powell and Coggins Brown both reached and scored in the bottom of the third inning to end the game with Troy leading 16-0. Ross and Copeland both reached in the inning.

The win for Troy sends them into the winner’s bracket where they will play the winner of Taylor-Rehobeth and Smiths Station beginning at 3:30 p.m.
