The Charles Henderson golf team finished their 2019 season on Tuesday afternoon at the Sub-State Tournament in Mobile.

The Trojans finished with a team score of 357, good enough for sixth place. UMS Wright took home the first place prize after shooting a 307. They were followed up by Sylacauga (328), Briarwood Christian (338), Mortimer Jordan (348) and John Carroll (355).

“It was tough out there,” said head coach Doug Branson. “It’s a long course and we struggled today as a group. It was a disappointing finish to what was a successful year. We went down there to compete and our kids competed. We just couldn’t get rolling and couldn’t turn the corner as a team.”

Griff McCrary finished with a team-best 82 on Tuesday.

“Going into 17, he had a chance,” Branson said. “From the scores we were getting, he was tied with what could have qualified him for state. He had a big number on 17 and made par on 18.”

Brax Barron finished with a 90, Braden Prestwood shot a 92, Cody Paramore shot a 93 and Grant Baker finished his Trojan career with a 106.

Tuesday’s tournament was Baker and Paramore’s final tournament with the Trojans.

“They contributed so much,” Branson said. “They made my job easy. They were quality young men that represented Charles Henderson so well. It’s a testament to themselves and their families.”

They finished off their careers being a part of one of the better Trojan teams in recent seasons.

“We shot scores this year as a team that Charles Henderson hasn’t shot since I have been involved,” Branson said. “We have three guys that are coming back. My one, two and three are coming back. Griff will be a senior, Barron will be a senior and Braden was a seventh grader this year. The future is bright and I am looking forward to it.”
