Eagles fall to Ariton and Luverne in area tournament

Following a loss to Ariton to begin the Class 2A Area 4 Tournament, the Goshen Lady Eagles were eliminated with a 10-3 loss to Luverne.

Lexi McLendon got the start in the second game of the day for the Eagles. McLendon pitched six innings and surrendered 10 runs, seven of which were earned on 13 hits.

Kate Warrick picked up a one-out double in the top of the first and came around to score the game’s first run on a single to left by Brooke Bennett, giving the Eagles their only lead of the game.

The Tigers answered with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead.

The Eagles had back-to-back one out singles by McLendon and Bennett in the third inning. Morgan Wilkes brought McLendon home on an RBI single to left and Bennett came around to score on an error to tie the game at 3.

The Tigers came back and scored single runs in both the third and fourth innings before putting the game out of reach with a four-run fifth. The Tigers had two doubles in the inning including a two-run double that put them up 7-3. By inning’s end the Tigers increased their lead to seven at 10-3.

The Eagles finished with 11 hits in the loss. Bennett went 3-4 at the plate with one RBI. Warrick and Lydia Harrison both finished with two hits for the Eagles.
