AISA State High School Golf Championship underway at Troy CC

The AISA State High School Golf Championship got underway at the Troy Country Club on Monday morning.

Nine teams made the trip for the two-day championship event, all hoping to lift the championship trophy at the end of play on Tuesday. On Monday, Morgan Academy finished in the top spot after firing off a team score of 23 over par. Glenwood School finished day one in second place 15 shots behind them at 38 over par. Edgewood Academy, Lee-Scott Academy, Southern Academy, Tuscaloosa Academy, Pickens Academy, Pike Liberal Arts and the Lakeside School rounded out the rest of the field.

The Patriots finished day one in eighth place after firing off an overall score of 71 over par.

Jace Calhoun fired off a team-best 80 on day one. Chip Faircloth finished with an 89, Lindsey Cooper shot a 90 and Grant Wilkes shot a 96. Molly Kate Jordan shot a 125 for the Patriots; however, it was not included in the team score.

A total of 71 individual golfers were in the field on day one Monday, only two of which finished under par. Morgan Academy’s Jones Free finished day one in the lead after he shot a tournament best 67 (-4). Macon East’s Bishop Stringer finished with a 70 (-1) and finished in second place. James Parker of Pickens Academy (+3), Eli Arwood of Lee- Scott Academy (+4) and Thomas Morris of Morgan Academy (+4) rounded out the top five with 18 holes remaining.

Round two begins at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Players will tee-off on both the first and 10th tee.
