Patriots begin regionals

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots began play in the AISA Class AAA Regional Tournament on Thursday at Lagoon Park in Montgomery. The Patriots lost game one 5-1 to Glenwood. Weather suspended the Patriots’ game against Springwood with the Patriots leading 5-2 heading into the sixth inning.

The Lady Patriots were held scoreless for the majority of their game against Glenwood in their first game of the day. The Patriots left four runners on base over the course of the first four innings. In the sixth, they finally broke through with a run. Ally rushing led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. Rushing came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Grace Rushing.

The Patriots finished game one with five hits. Aubreigh Maulden went 2-3 and the Patriots also got hits by Morgan Bundy, Ally Rushing and Emily Dean.

Dannah Dawson got the start on the mound against Glenwood. Dawson pitched six innings and allowed five runs, two of which were earned on eight hits and a walk. Dawson struck out three batters.

Ally Rushing pitched the first five innings of game two. Rushing allowed two runs on three hits.

The Patriots jumped out to an early lead in game two. Maddi Johnson had a one-out RBI single in the second inning and came around to score on an error, giving the Patriots a 1-0 lead. Springwood answered with two runs in the top of the third to take a one-run lead at 2-1.

The game moved into the bottom of the fifth inning with Springwood still clinging to a one-run lead. Ally Rushing led off the inning with a single. Mallory Clifton came in to run for the pitcher and stole home to bring the score 2-2.

After a brief delay, the Patriots added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Heading into the sixth inning the game was suspended due to inclement weather. The game will resume on Friday beginning at 12:30 p.m.
