Late loss: Bulldogs fall to Daleville 11-9

The Pike County Lady Bulldogs fell to Daleville 11-9 in a back-and-forth game in Brundidge on Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the second inning, but were outscored 10-4 the rest of the way.

Senkeithia Thompson got the start for the Bulldogs. She pitched all seven innings, surrendering 11 total runs. She struck out 11 batters.

Thompson and the Bulldogs fell behind in the first inning after the Warhawks picked up an RBI double.

The Bulldogs battled back to even the score with a bases-loaded walk in the second by Ariel Moutry. Jamizyah Berry ripped a ball to the outfield, one that the left fielder couldn’t catch, allowing two runs to touch home plate, giving the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead. Moutry came around to score the fourth run of the inning when she stole home and Anna Price drove in the final run of the inning on a single to center field.

After the Warhawks cut their deficit to two runs at 5-3, the Bulldogs got a run back in the bottom of the third inning when Rayleigh Beaty scored on a wild pitch.

The Warhawks scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning courtesy of just one hit and took a 7-6 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning.

Berry drove in the game-tying run in the next half inning on a groundout that allowed Moutry to score to tie the game at 7.

The Warhawks had a double and two singles in the sixth inning and took a 10-7 lead into the bottom of the sixth.

Thompson singled in Hannah Griffin in the bottom half of the inning and the game moved into the seventh with the Warhawks leading 10-8.

After allowing the Warhawks to add to their lead with a run in the top of the seventh, the Bulldogs were able to squeak one final run across in the bottom of the seventh on a groundout by Urriyah Berry.

The Bulldogs will compete in the Elba Tune-Up Tournament beginning on Friday.
