Trojans knock off Mountaineers

The Troy Trojans hit three home runs in their 8-2 win over Appalachian State on Thursday evening in Troy.

The win for the Trojans gives them a 20-18 overall record and it evens their record in conference play at 8-8.

Levi Thomas got the start for the Trojans. The sophomore pitched the game’s first eight innings. He allowed two runs on four hits. Thomas gave way to Lance Johnson to finish off the ninth inning.

After scoring a run in the first on a balk called on the Mountaineer pitcher, The Trojans did the majority of their damage in the third inning. Sadler Goodwin started the scoring with a double to left.

Chase Smartt and Manning Early both hit home runs in the inning and the Trojans went into the fourth leading 6-0.

Following a two-run inning by the Mountaineers in the fourth, Frederic hit Troy’s third home run of the game to put the Trojans up 7-2.

Rigsby Mosley scored the final run of the game on a wild pitch in the sixth.

The Trojans finished with 12 hits. Goodwin finished 3-3 with two doubles. Dalton Sinquefield and Frederic each finished with two hits.

The Trojans will continue their series with the Mountaineers today beginning at 6 p.m. they will close out the series on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
