Goshen knocks off Zion Chapel

The Goshen Eagles scored seven runs in the opening inning and never looked back in their 16-1 win over the Zion Chapel Rebels on Monday night.

The Eagles sent 12 batters to the plate and tallied seven hits in the opening inning. Kate Warrick began the scoring with an RBI double to drive in Hannah Calhoun for the game’s first run. Two batters later, Brooke Bennett had an RBI double of her own to put the Eagles up 3-0. The Eagles had a three-run triple by Kaci Wilkes and the inning’s third double by Calhoun.

After a scoreless second inning, the Eagles’ offense was back at it again in the bottom of the second inning when they scored six more runs.

Shae Shepard hit a two-run double, while Madison Campbell, Lydia Harrison each had RBI singles.

The Eagles closed out their scoring in the fourth with three runs on just one hit, an RBI single by Harrison to give the Eagles their 16th run of the game.

Bennett finished the game 3-3 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored, while Calhoun, Warrick, Campbell and Harrison each had two hits.

Lexi McLendon got the start for the Eagles. McClendon pitched four innings and surrendered one unearned run on three hits, while striking out six batters.

The Eagles will be back in action today when they travel to Jack to once again take on Zion Chapel.
