Eagles knock off Ariton

The Goshen Lady Eagles picked up an area win when they knocked off Ariton 7-2 on the road on Tuesday night.

The win for the Eagles improves them to 8-12-2 on the season.

Lexi McClendon got the start and pitched all seven innings. She allowed two unearned runs on three hits and two walks. She struck out eight batters.

The Eagles finished with 14 hits in the win. Shae Shepard finished 3-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Kate Warrick, Brooke Bennett, McLendon and Morgan Wilkes all finished with two hits, while Hannah Calhoun, Madison Campbell, and Kaci Wilkes all had one hit.

After two scoreless innings, the Eagles broke the scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the third inning. Warrick scored the game’s first run on an error. The Eagles then had three straight RBI hits. Campbell and Bennett both had RBI singles and McLendon drove in the final run of the inning on a double to center field, scoring Campbell.

Ariton got a run back in the third to bring the score to 4-1. The Eagles got it right back and then some in the fourth when they added two more runs. With two runners on base, Warrick doubled on a fly ball to right field to score both Shepard and Calhoun to bring the score to 6-1.

Ariton added a run in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 6-2. The Eagles then scored their final run in the top of the seventh inning. Shepard doubled on a line drive to center field to allow Harrison to score from second base.

The Eagles will travel to take on New Brockton today. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
