Grice heading to finals

Eli Grice will represent the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots tennis team in the AISA State Championship on Tuesday after he won his two matches on Monday afternoon.

The Patriots sent three tennis players for individual matches and a doubles team to Montgomery for the state championship. Grice will have a chance at a state championship after he won against individuals from Lee-Scott and Lakeside.

Grice was one of three Patriot individuals to make it to the semifinal round on Monday. Grice was joined by teammates Zac Dean and Britton Paul. Dean defeated Kincaid Foster from Glenwood 8-0 in the first round. Grice won his first round matchup against Lee-Scott 8-0 and Paul won her match 8-1.

In the semifinals, Grice won his match against Lakeside, but teammates Dean and Paul lost their matches to Morgan and Fort Dale Academy.

The doubles tandem of Dean and Grice fell to a duo from Morgan Academy 7-6, 0-6.

Grice’s championship match will begin at 9 a.m.
