Local teams featured in latest state rankings

The latest Alabama Sports Writers Association’s rankings are out and a few local teams look to move towards the top spot.

On the baseball side, two local teams in Charles Henderson and Pike Liberal Arts remain ranked in the top-10 and Goshen continues to get votes.

In softball, the Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots check in at number 10 in AISA.

The Charles Henderson Trojans checked in at Number 2 in Class 5A in this week’s rankings with a 23-4 record. They are fresh off an area sweep of Greenville on Wednesday evening. The Trojans have won nine straight games since their loss to area foe Rehobeth on March 21. The Trojans have five more games remaining in their regular schedule. They will take on Opp and Carroll three times next week before closing out the regular season against Dothan on April 15.

The Patriot baseball team is ranked ninth in AISA with a 17-10 record. The Patriots entered Thursday’s game on a three-game losing streak. It was stretched to a four-game losing streak with a 2-0 loss to the Knights. Their previous three losses have been to Autauga Academy, Lee-Scott and Tuscaloosa Academy. The Patriots have three games scheduled for next week. They will travel to take on Macon East in a key area double-header on Tuesday before hosting Springwood on Thursday.

The Goshen Eagles garnered votes for the top 10 in Class 2A. They entered Thursday with a 12-7 record. They were scheduled to take on Luverne on Thursday, but the game was postponed due to weather. The Eagles have won two straight against Georgiana and Pike County by a combined score of 34-0.

The Lady Patriots check in at 19-13. They have lost their last four games heading into Thursday’s game against Northside Methodist. The Lady Patriots will play two double-headers next week. They will travel to Macon-East on Tuesday before hosting Springwood on Thursday.
