JV Patriots start tourney 2-0

The Pike Liberal Arts junior varsity Patriots swept the first two games in their tournament in Troy on Friday.
The Patriots won game one 7-3 before finishing the day with a 4-0 win over Abbeville.
Case Chirico, Parker Adams and KC Bradford got on the mound for the Patriots against Autauga. Chirico got the start and pitched the game’s first 2.1 innings. He allowed two runs on four hits. He struck out one.
The Patriots finished with four hits by Bradford, Jayden Jordan, Chirico, and Adams.
The Patriots scored all seven of their runs in the first four innings in game one.
The first two runs came in the bottom of the first inning. Jordan lined into a fielder’s choice that allowed Bradford to score. Chirico followed up with a double to left to drive in Jordan.
The Generals got one run back in the top of the second before the Patriots scored again in the bottom of the inning. Tre Holmes grounded to second, allowing Landon Johnson to scamper home.
The Generals scored their second run of the game in the top of the third. The Trojans again answered in their half of the inning when Chirico hit a sacrifice fly to increase Troy’s lead to 5-2.
The Patriots put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth. Jordan singled to left and allowed Adams and Bradford to score, putting the Patriots up 7-2.
Davis Kilcrease got the start in game two. Kilcrease pitched all five innings and allowed just two hits.
The Patriots finished with four hits by Bradford, Morgan Sanders, Jayden Jordan and Chirico.
All four of the Patriot runs came in the third inning. Skylar Kidd was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. With the bases still loaded, Chirico hit a bases-clearing double to put the Patriots up 4-0.
The Patriots will continue tournament play today when they begin the single elimination portion of the schedule.
