Goshen holds off Straughn

The Goshen Lady Eagles scored the game’s first seven runs and held on late to knock off Straughn 7-5 on Monday night.
The Eagles scored seven runs from the second inning until the fifth before allowing five in the final two innings.
Lexi McLendon pitched all seven innings, earning the win for the Eagles. McLendon allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks, while striking out five.
The Eagles finished the game with 11 hits, led by senior Hannah Calhoun who went 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored. McLendon and Lydia Harrison each had two hits and a total of three RBI. Morgan Wilkes, Selena Warren, Shae Shepard and Mary-Kate Mills all had one hit for the Eagles.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Warren double to center, driving in both Wilkes and Harrison for the game’s first two runs. Calhoun drove in the third on a single to shortstop.
The Eagles added a solo run in the third on a single to center by Harrison drove in McLendon.
McLendon helped her own cause in the fourth when she singled to left allowing Shepard to score, putting the Eagles up 6-0.
The Eagles scored their final run of the game on a Calhoun single in the fifth.
The Lady Eagles will travel to Luverne to take on the Tigers in area play this afternoon at approximately 6 p.m.
