Patriots knock off Lakeside

The Pike Liberal Arts junior varsity and varsity baseball teams swept the Lakeside Chiefs on Tuesday night in Troy.

The junior varsity Patriots knocked off the Chiefs 5-1 to begin the afternoon. The varsity Patriots defeated the Chiefs 12-2 in just five innings.

The junior varsity Patriots improved to 6-2 with their win over Lakeside.

Skylar Kidd got the start for the Patriots. Kidd pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed two hits and had four strikeouts.

Cade Renfroe pitched an inning and Cade Edwards picked up an out on the mound.

The Patriots finished with three hits in the win by Kase Chirico, Kidd and Landon Johnson.

The Patriots jumped on Lakeside in their opening at bat. The Patriots had two RBI doubles by Kidd and Landon Johnson. KC Bradford scored on a wild pitch and the Patriots took a 4-0 lead into the second inning.

The Patriots’ lead grew to 5-0 in the second inning when Chirico came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Kidd.

The varsity Patriots improved their record on the season to 13-3.

Levi Sikes got the start for the Patriots. Sikes pitched 4.2 innings and allowed two total runs, only one of which was earned. Sikes allowed five hits and struck out one.

The Patriots finished with eight hits. Levi Sikes and Tristan Carter each picked up two hits, while Cody Hollis, Davis Allen, Jade Sikes and Chandler Golden each had one.

The Patriots scored their first run in the second inning on an RBI single by Carter.

After the Chiefs evened the score with a run in the third inning, the Patriots scored four more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Jade Sikes and Levi Sikes both and run producing hits in the inning.

The Patriots blew the game open in the fifth when they totaled seven runs to put them up 12-2. The Patriots scored their seven runs on just two hits.

The Patriots will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on Lakeside.
