PLAS golf and tennis teams find success

Both the Pike Liberal Arts golf and tennis teams found success on Tuesday.
The Pike Liberal Arts tennis team swept Tuscaloosa Christian School in a match on Tuesday night in Tuscaloosa and the Pike Patriot golf team finished second in a tournament hosted by Fort Dale Academy in Greenville.
The Lady Patriots knocked off Tuscaloosa 7-0 and the boys won 4-3.
The top five seeds in both singles and doubles were counted on Tuesday. Zac Dean and Eli Grice won individually for the Patriot boys, while the team of Dean and Grice, along with Jackson Thomas and Bryant Hussey won in doubles.
On the girl’s side, Hannah Helms, Sarah Todd Floyd, Britton Paul, Grace Thomas and Katie Mac Manning were the top five seeds to win individually on Tuesday. Claire-Ann Manning, Hope Thomas, Anna Jordan, Kayla Pearson and Maria Smith also picked up wins. The doubles teams of Hannah Helms and Sarah Todd Floyd and Britton Paul and Grace Thomas both won.
With the second place, finish the Patriot golf team secured a spot in the state tournament that will be played at the Troy County Club later this spring. In addition to qualifying as a team, the Patriots also had individual golfers earn a spot in the state tournament. Grant Wilkes, Chip Faircloth and Cooper Lindsay will join teammates Jace Calhoun and Peyton Jacobs, who qualified earlier this season.
The Patriot tennis team will be back in action on Thursday when they compete in a tri-match in Opelika to take on Tuscaloosa Academy and Lee-Scott Academy.
The golf team will be competing at Bagby State Park in match hosted by Lakeside.
