Lady Patriots hold off Lee-Scott in 4-3 win

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots held off a surging Lee-Scott Academy team in their 4-3 win on Tuesday night in Troy.

After leading 4-0 heading into the sixth inning, the Patriots allowed three Warrior runs, cutting their deficit down to just one.

Dannah Dawson got the Warriors out 1-2-3 in the top half of the seventh inning to nail down the win.

Ally Rushing got the start for the Patriots on Tuesday evening. Rushing pitched six innings and allowed three runs on two hits and three walks. Rushing struck out 12 batters. Dawson, in her one inning of work, struck out two Warrior batters.

The Patriots finished with eight hits led by Morgan Bundy, who finished 3-3. Grace Rushing went 2-3, while Ally Rushing, Emily Dean and Aubreigh Maulden each had one.

The Patriots took the game’s first lead in the bottom of the first inning when Maulden drove in Bundy on a ground out to second base.

The Patriots lead stayed at 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when they tallied three runs. Ally Rushing had the big hit in the inning when she tripled on a line drive to right to drive in Emily Williamson and Bundy. Grace Rushing drove in the final run of the inning on a line drive single to right to score pinch runner Ansley Adams.

The Warriors began their comeback attempt in the sixth inning when the scored three runs, bringing the score to 4-3.

After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, Dawson picked up two strikeouts in the top of the seventh to preserve the one-run win for the Patriots.

The Lady Patriots will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to take on Lakeside.
