CHHS downs Headland

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans knocked off Headland 9-4 on Tuesday night in Troy.

The win for the Trojans brings them to 2-3 on the season.

leading by just two runs heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Trojans scored three runs to help clinch their second win of the season.

Emma Kirkpatrick got the start and went the distance for the Trojans. She allowed four total runs, only two of which were earned in her seven innings of work. She allowed six hits and struck out five.

Sydni Garrett led the Trojans offensively by going a perfect 3-3 with a walk and had three RBI. Heather Maxwell, McKenzie Cain and Kirkpatrick all had two hits for the Trojans.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Trojans took a one-run lead when they scored two runs in their first at-bat. Garrett picked up the first first RBI on a single to left field and Gracie Sneed drove in Emily Hughes on a groundout.

After Headland briefly tied with a run in the third, the Trojans went back up front on a single by Garrett.

Charles Henderson added two in the fourth on a sacrifice Fly by Dakota Berry a single by Maxwell.

The Trojans went into the bottom of the sixth up by just two runs at 6-4. They put the game away in the bottom half of the inning when they scored their final three runs of the game. Hughes drove in the first run of the inning with a bases loaded walk. Madison Stewart then singled on a hard ground ball to left to bring in Mykyia Milton. Garrett scored the final Charles Henderson run on a Headland error.

The Trojans will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to take on Eufaula beginning at 5 p.m.
