Lady Patriots pick up first win of the season

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots bounced back from their opening day loss with a 10-0 win over Ezekiel Academy on Thursday evening.

The win for the Patriots improves their record on the season to 1-1.

Morgan Bundy got the start for the Patriots in the lopsided win. Bundy pitched all four innings of the shortened contest. Bundy allowed two hits and a walk during her outing.

The Patriots finished with eight hits led by Bundy, Aubreigh Maulden and Grace Rushing who all finished with two hits, while Avery Henderson and Maggie Phelps had one.

The Patriots scored three runs in their first at bat on Thursday. Grace Rushing singled on a line drive to right field to drive in Maulden. Bundy later came around to score on a wild pitch and Rushing scored the final run of the inning after Phelps grounded out to second base.

The Patriots doubled their lead in the second when they scored three more runs to go up 6-0. Bundy tripled on a line drive to left field to drive in both Dannah Dawson and Madisyn Johnson. Maulden followed that up with a double to left to score Bundy.

After the Patriots added another run in the third, the Patriots closed out the scoring and the game with three runs in the fourth.

Maulden ripped a triple to left field to drive in Emily Williamson and Henderson. Rushing drove in the final run with a single to center.

The Patriots will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Lee-Scott.
