Patriots sweep Ezekiel

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots swept Ezekiel Academy in a double-header on Thursday afternoon in Troy.

The Patriots began the double-header with a 12-2 win before closing out the evening with a 10-0 win over the Knights.

Tripp Spivey got the start for the Patriots in game one. Spivey pitched all five innings of the shortened game. He allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk, while striking seven Knight batters.

The Patriots finished with seven hits led by Trevor Barron who went 2-2 with two walks and three RBI. Hunter Keenan, Cody Hollis, Levi Sikes, Holt Steed and Javon Christian had the other hits for the Patriots.

The Knights scored their only two runs of the contest in the top half of the first inning. The Patriots made the Knights’ lead evaporate immediately when they scored four runs in the bottom half of the first inning. The first two runs came on bases-loaded walks by Tristan Carter and Levi Sikes. The third and fourth runs came on a wild pitch and a steal of home by Levi Sikes.

The Patriots scored two runs in both the second and third innings to go up 8-2. After adding a run in the fourth on a Holt Steed double, the Patriots went into the fifth leading 9-2.

The ended the game one inning later when Chandler Golden was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Keenan hit a double to drive in Hollis and Barron.

Game two lasted just three innings after the Patriots scored all 10 of their runs in the first inning.

Clay Barron got the start for the Patriots and pitched the game’s first inning. J.D. Wilson pitched the remaining two. He allowed one hit and struck out four.

The Patriots sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning. They tallied 10 runs on four hits including a triple and a home run by Golden.

Marx Copeland, Christian and Steed had the three other hits for the Patriots.

The Patriots will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Lee-Scott.
