Trojans fall to Enterprise

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans begin the 2019 season on the road against Enterprise on Monday night.

Despite an early 7-3 lead, the Trojans begin the season 0-1 after Enterprise came back 15-10.

Emma Kirkpatrick started for the Trojans on Monday night. Kirkpatrick lasted 2.2 innings and allowed nine earned runs on nine hits and two walks. Sydni Garrett came in to pitch the remaining 3.1 innings against Enterprise. The senior allowed six total, four of which were earned, while giving up three hits. She struck out four batters.

The Trojans got on the board in the opening inning. Garrett singled on a hard ground ball to left field to drive in both Whittaka Lowery and Sadie Leverette. Madison Steward put the Trojans up 3-0 when singled to center to score Garrett.

The Wildcats evened the score at three in their half of the first inning. They scored all three of their runs with two outs in the inning. After getting the first two outs, Kirkpatrick gave up a double and back-to-back walks before allowing the second double of the inning, which cleared the bases, evening the score at 3.

After both teams went scoreless in the second inning, the Trojans posted a four-run third inning to take their biggest lead of the contest. Garrett picked up her second RBI of the game when she homered to left to give the Trojans a one-run lead. Stewart made it a three-run lead when lead when she too cleared the fence for a two-run home run. Heather Maxwell put the Trojans up 7-3 when she drove in Dakota Berry with a single to center.

Enterprise went up for good in their half of the third when they scored six runs on seven hits including a three-run home run. By innings end, the Wildcats held a 9-7 lead.

After allowing four more runs in the fourth, the Trojans went into the fifth trailing 13-7. They crept to within four runs after Stella Gilbreath homered on a line drive to center field and Graci Williams centered to left to drive in Berry to bring the score to 13-9.

Enterprise pushed their lead back to six when they answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Trojans scored their final run of the game in the seventh on a RBI single by Leverette.

Lowery, Williams, Garrett and Stewart all finished with two hits for the Trojans.

Charles Henderson will be back in action today when they play at Northview.
