Trojans wrap up tournament with 3-2 record

The Troy Trojan softball team wrapped up play in their season-opening tournament on Sunday afternoon with a loss to Alabama 8-0.

The Trojans finished play with a 3-2 overall record. After they split day one with a win against Maryland and a loss to Alabama, Troy swept day two on Saturday, defeating Murray State 2-1 and Maryland 10-1.

Alabama finished the tournament a perfect 5-0. Maryland finished 2-3 and Murray State finished winless at 0-5.

Freshman Leanna Johnson, in her first taste of college softball, finished the weekend 2-1 with a 3.43 ERA. She racked up 19 strikeouts in 16.1 innings pitched. Annie Willis totaled 9.1 innings, while allowing five earned runs.

Logan Calhoun finished the weekend with five hits in 12 at-bats and had two RBI. Stephanie Snyder, Kelly Horne and Katie Webb all totaled three hits apiece and had a total of six RBI.

The Trojans will compete in the Citrus Classic beginning on Friday in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. They will open up the classic against Stetson and Missouri on Friday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. They will play UMASS and LIU Brooklyn on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. They will close out the classic on Sunday when they play Saint Joseph’s at 9 a.m.
