The Goshen Lady Eagles saw their quest for an area championship come up just short when they fell to host Samson 55-39 in the championship game of the Class 2A Area 4 Tournament.

Despite the loss, the Eagles will advance to the Class 2A Sub-Regional Tournament next week.

The Eagles were led in scoring by a pair of seniors in Bree Griffin and Jamecia Berry. Griffin led the Eagles with 31 points, while Berry finished with six points. 

The Lady Eagles were held to single digits in two quarters on Thursday night. After getting all nine of their first quarter points by Griffin, the Eagles went into the second leading by one at 9-8.

Berry and Griffin accounted for all 10 of Goshen’s points in the second quarter. After being outscored in the second quarter 16-10, The Eagles went into halftime trailing 24-19.

The Eagles mustered four third-quarter points and went into the fourth quarter trailing 39-23.

The Eagles will begin play in the Class 2A Sub-Regional Tournament against the winner of Area 3.
