The Pike County Lady Bulldogs knocked off Bullock County 53-25 on Friday night in Brundidge.

“It was a lot of fun for the girls,” said head coach Rebecca Kidd. “They got to work on a lot of things to get ready for the next stage at the area tournament. It was a very good win.”

The Lady Bulldogs offense scored 53 points, but it was their defense that impressed coach Kidd on Friday evening. The Lady Bulldogs held Bullock County to singe-digit points in all four quarters.

“That is what we have been focusing on for the last couple of weeks,” Kidd said. “Defense wins ball games, so they have been pushing hard to get better defensively. That makes offense happen.”

The Lady Bulldogs trailed only briefly on Friday night. After Bullock County scored the first point of the game on a free throw, the Bulldogs quickly took the lead and never surrendered it.

The Bulldogs finished off the first quarter with a 17-7 lead.

The Bulldog defense remained stingy in the second quarter when they held Bullock County to five points. They went into the locker room at halftime leading 27-14.

After going into the fourth quarter up 39-18, the Lady Bulldogs led by as many as 26 in the final quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs had nine players score the basketball in the win. Kyah Rouse led the Bulldogs with 12 points, while Aliah Broadnax finished with nine. Lauren Pearson finished the game with eight points and Tajh Boyd finished with six.

The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday when they begin play in the area tournament against Houston Academy. Game time is set for 6 p.m.

The varsity boys were also in action on Friday night. They completed the sweep with a 42-38 win over Bullock County.
