Former Trojans earn final roster spots in AAF

The inaugural season of the Alliance of American Football league is just over a week away, two familiar faces earned roster spots on Thursday morning.

Two former Trojans in Brandon Silvers and Jonathan Massaquoi earned coveted spots on two rosters.

Silvers, Troy’s quarterback from 2014-2017, will be one of three quarterbacks on the Memphis Express roster. He will join a roster with two other quarterbacks in Zach Mettenberger and Christian Hackenberg.

Massaquoi, a defensive end for Troy in 2009 and 2010, earned an opportunity to play linebacker with the Iron.

Silvers, a four-year starter finished his career as Troy’s all-time leader with 87 career touchdowns responsible for. He finished second in school history with 10,684 passing yards and 11,099 yards of total offense.

Silvers led the Trojans to a 21-5 record over his last two seasons with Troy.

Silvers signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Massaquoi was a first team All-Sun Belt Conference in 2010 with the Trojans. Massaquoi recorded sacks in seven of Troy’s games in 2010.

THE AAF will officially kick of their inaugural season on Saturday, February 9. The two former Trojans will matchup against one another in week one when the Express travels down to Birmingham to take on the Iron on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. the game can be seen on the CBS Sports network.
