Bulldogs improve to 4-1 in area with win over Wicksburg

The Pike County Bulldogs basketball team picked up another area win over the weekend when they knocked off Wicksburg 63-20 in Newton.

The win for the Bulldogs improves their overall record to 12-5. Their area record improves to 4-1.

Andres Burney racked up a double-double when he finished with a game-high 21 points with 14 rebounds and five blocked shots.

Amaghie Lampley also finished in double figures with 11 points, while Bendarius Myhand had eight points and Jaidyn Wilson had six.

Burney got the Bulldog offense going in the opening quarter on Saturday. He tallied seven points in the opening quarter and the Bulldogs entered the second quarter with a comfortable 19-6 lead.

The Bulldog defense held the Panthers to just six points again in the second quarter. Burney added eight more points in the second quarter. Combined with a couple of three-pointers by Lawrence Silar and Kameron McKinney, the Bulldogs went into the locker room holding a 45-12 lead.

For the third quarter in a row, The Bulldog defense held the Panthers to six third-quarter points. After Burney scored his final six points in the third, the Bulldogs extended their lead further heading into the fourth quarter leading 58-18.

The streak of allowing six points in a quarter came to an end in the fourth when the Bulldogs held Wicksburg to two points in the fourth.

The Bulldogs will take on Charles Henderson in Troy this evening. They will close out area play on Friday when they host Providence Christian.
