Bulldogs fall to Raiders in area opener

The Pike County Bulldogs fell to Houston Academy 32-30 in the area opener on Tuesday evening in Dothan.

The loss for the Bulldogs drops their record on the season to 9-4.

The Patriots had just one player score in double figures in the loss. Kevon Harris finished with a team-high 12 points, while Andres Burney had six. Jaidyn Wilson, Zevathan McKinney and Amaghie Lampley all finished with four points.

Scoring came at a premium for the Bulldogs and Raiders on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs and Raiders combined to score 15 first quarter points. The Raiders carried a 9-6 lead in the second quarter.

The Raiders stretched their lead in the second after they posted 11 quarter points. Harris nailed a three-pointer, but a seven second quarter points caused the Bulldogs to go into halftime trailing 20-13.

The Raiders scored just 12 second half points, but it was just enough to hold off the surging Bulldogs.

Pike County outscored the Rebels in the third quarter 11-5 after Harris, Burney, McKinney and Lampley all scored. The Bulldogs went into the fourth quarter trailing by one at 25-24.

Harris scored five fourth quarter points, but the Rebels did just enough to hold off the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday when they host Wicksburg.
