Trojans try to bounce back against Mountaineers

The Troy Trojans return to Trojan Arena on Saturday afternoon to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

It will be the second Sun Belt Conference game of the season for the Trojans, they fell to Coastal Carolina 44-32 on Thursday night to tall to 7-6 overall.

The Trojans were without leading scorer and senior Jordon Varnado in their loss to Chanticleers. Varnado was suspended for one game for unknown reasons, but is expected to return this afternoon.

Varnado comes into the game as Troy’s leading scorer with nearly 18 points per game. Alex Hicks is second on the team in scoring with 12.2 points per game. Hicks scored eight points for the Trojans in their loss to the Chanticleers after making one his eight shots.

The Mountaineers ride into Troy with a 5-9 overall record. They lost their conference opener on Thursday night against South Alabama.

The Mountaineers are led in scoring by Ronshad Shabazz, who is averaging 20 points per game.

The Trojans split their two games against the Mountaineers last season. The Trojans won their home game against the Mountaineers, 81-79.

Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
