Trojans knock off Texas State

The Troy Trojans picked up their second-straight win on Friday afternoon when they knocked off Tennessee State 92-67 inside Trojan Arena.

Since their season opening loss to Florida State, the Trojans have now rattled off wins against Samford and Tennessee State to improve to 2-1 on the year.

“It was great to get a win at home,” head coach Chanda Rigby said. “We have a lot of new players that we’re trying to get a lot out of and Kate Rodgers established herself as a defensive force for us today by taking charges and creating positive possessions.”

The Trojans led by as many as 27 points in the second half after they took a 51-30 lead into the locker room at half time.

The Trojans had 11 players score, including five in double figures led by Amber Rivers who had 19. Japonica James had 12 and Harriet Winchester, Shaterrica O’Neal and Jasmine Robinson all had 10.

The Trojans shot a tick under 50 percent, while holding Tennessee State to 29 percent. The Trojans out-rebounded their opponents 48-43, while forcing 21 turnovers.

The Trojans will hit the road on Monday to take on East Tennessee State beginning at 11 a.m.
