Ariton tops Thorsby

The Ariton Purple Cats upset No. 3 Thorsby 41-14 in the opening round of the Class 2A State Playoffs Friday night in Thorsby.

The Purple Cats entered the postseason as a number three seed after finishing the regular season 7-3 overall.

Offensively, the Purple Cats were led by Bryson Peavy who rushed for a total of four touchdowns against the Rebels. He rushed for a total of 192 yards. Two of his touchdowns came from four yards out while the other two came on runs of eight yards and one yard. Peavy also added a two-point conversion.

Daniel Hicks added 69 yards on the ground and had touchdown runs of 24 and 14 yards. Hicks also scored on a two-point conversion. On defense, Hicks had seven tackles with an interception and a fumble recovery. Jackson Blair added eight tackles and also had a fumble recovery.

The Purple Cat defense allowed just one offensive touchdown. Thorsby also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

With the win, the Purple Cats will return home next Friday night to host Cottage Hill Christian.

Goshen 0 Cottage Hill 26

Goshen had their season come to a close when they fell to Cottage Hill Christian on Friday night.

The Eagles trailed 7-0 at halftime, but The Warriors put up 19 unanswered points in the second half to pull away.

Quarterback Bryan Galloway completed three of his 10 passes for 17 yards. Galloway led the Eagles in rushing with 89 yards on 17 carries.

The Eagles finished the regular season with a 4-7 record.
