The Goshen Eagles swept the Luverne Tigers to claim the Class 2A Area 6 championship on Monday night in Goshen.
The Eagles stamped their spot in the regional tournament by beating the Tigers 25-11, 25-10, 25-17.
“I am excited for the seniors and I’m excited for the whole team,” said head coach Amy Warrick. “We are playing really good volleyball right now. We are playing the kind of volleyball that I hoped we would play. I really wanted to come out and play this type of volleyball at the beginning of the season, but it’s a process. The last few games we have played; I have been really proud.
“I told them everything seems to be coming together and they seem to be gelling at the right time.”
Lydia Harrison finished the match with two aces, six points scored and five kills. Kate Warrick had one ace, five points scored, two kills, 12 assists and two digs. Hannah Calhoun had 10 aces, 21 points scored, one kill, one assist and seven digs, while Jamecia Berry had six kills and one block.
As a team, the Eagles finished with 20 aces and 50 points scored.
“They served really well,” Warrick said. “That’s one of the biggest things that we have focused on this year because we feel like that is one of our strengths. They served really well.”
The Eagles also succeeded at passing the ball along with their hitting.
“We made a few hitting errors, but as far as running the offense they did a really good job,” Warrick said. “They passed really well.”
The Eagles will now turn their sights to the Crampton Bowl where they will begin region play on Thursday beginning at 12:45.
“We are going to have to keep doing exactly what we have been doing,” Warrick said. “We are going to have to keep serving really well. We have become more of an aggressive team. Instead of having as many free balls and passing the ball over, we are starting to hit the ball a little better.”
