After their biggest win of the season against Providence Christian, the Pike County Bulldogs hit the road on Friday to take on Slocomb.

First place was on the line a week ago and the excitement was ramped up inside Bulldogs Stadium. The Bulldogs scored 18 unanswered points on their way to a 25-14 win. Now they hope to remain focused against the 2-4 Red Tops.

“It was a region win and we have another region game this week,” said head coach Fred Holland. “I always tell them enjoy it on Friday and then after that put it behind you. So far this season, with our senior leadership, our guys have been in the right direction.”

The Red Tops have dropped three straight and are coming off a 27-24 loss to Houston Academy last week. In their last two losses, the Red Tops have lost by a combined six points.

“They are going to try and spread us out,” Holland said. “They do a really good job getting the ball to Addison Stewart. The quarterback does a good job running the football. They are the key to the offense. They give you a lot of different formations. It’s nothing we haven’t seen but they have two dynamic players that cause a lot of problems.”

The Bulldogs allowed the Eagles to score on their first two possessions last Friday night. This week, Holland is looking for his team to get off to a better start.

“We just have to have better execution,” Holland said. “When you face good teams, you have to face a lot of adversity. One big thing we are going to have to face is going on the road again. When they want to win as much as you do, you have to put a little more time in.”

With Hurricane Michael making landfall on Wednesday, Slocomb’s football field was out of power on Thursday.

“I think they are still working on it,” Holland said. “From my understanding, they are doing everything they can. The field is in good shape, they are just without power. We are definitely going to play on Friday. Hopefully if they can’t get it done, they will think about another venue down the road.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Red Top Stadium in Slocomb.
