Eagles knock off Brantley in home opener

The Goshen Eagles hosted the Brantley Bulldogs in their 2018 home opener on Tuesday night. The junior high Eagles began the night by winning their match with the Bulldogs 26-24, 15-25, 15-8. The junior varsity Eagles struggled with the Bulldogs before being swept 24-26, 23-25. The varsity Eagles closed out the evening by defeating the Bulldogs in four sets 22-25, 25-19, 27-25, 26-24.

The wins for both the junior high and varsity Eagles improve their record on the season to 2-0. With the loss the junior varsity Eagles drop to 0-2.

Kaci Wilkes finished the junior varsity match with three aces, five points scored and 10 digs, while Ella Baker had three aces, eight points scored, two kills and two digs. Morgan Wilkes finished with six points scored, one kill, five assists and three digs.

Olivia Kyzar finished the varsity match with four aces, six points scored, 19 assists and two digs. Julie Johns had three aces, 10 points scored, 10 kills, two blocks and three digs, while Lydia Harrison completed the match with four aces, eight points scored and five kills.

Senior Kate Warrick had three points scored, six kills, 20 assists, four blocks and five digs. Hannah Calhoun finished with nine points scored, three kills and 17 digs. Molly Wares had six aces, 18 points scored, five kills and 12 digs, while Anastasia Mallard finished with 10 kills and eight blocks.

The Eagles will be back in action this Thursday when they travel to take on Andalusia beginning with the junior high match at 4:30 p.m.
