Post 70 falls to loser’s bracket with 6-5 loss

The American Legion Post 70 baseball team fell to Randolph County Post 45 6-5 on Thursday evening in the American Legion Southeastern Regional in North Carolina.

It was the first loss of the tournament for Post 70. They will continue the tournament today in the loser’s bracket.

Brayden Baggett got the start for Post 70. Baggett pitched the first two innings and allowed four runs on four hits.

Dylan Register pitched the game’s final four innings and allowed two runs on three hits. He struck out nine batters.

The Trojans jumped out to an early lead when they jumped on Post 45 with three runs in the opening inning. Ryan Tomlin singled to left to drive in Gage Herring for the game’s first run. DJ Law followed suit with a double to right to drive in both Tomlin and Logan Thompson to put Post 70 up 3-0.

Three hits, two walks and a hit-batter led to Post 45 to score 4 runs in the bottom of the second to take a one-run lead at 4-3.

Troy tied the game in the third inning when Nathan Renfroe walked with the bases loaded.

Post 45 retook the lead in the next half-inning with a double to right field.

Post 70 evened the score one final time in the top of the fourth inning when Joey Wozniak singled to center field to score Register.

Walks hurt Post 70 again when Post 45 bunched together two singles and two walks to take the final lead of the game at 6-5.

Post 70 finished with five hits, led by Tomlin who went 2-4 with 1 RBI. Wozniak, Law and Jinright each had one hit.
